Andrew Hartbarger, of Lone Tree, Colo., has signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at the University of Minnesota, Golden Gopher coaches Dennis Dale and Bill Tramel announced. Hartbarger will join the Gophers in the 2011-12 season.
A senior at Highlands Ranch High School, Hartbarger placed third in the 2010 Colorado 5A State Championships in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke. He also led off the state champion 200 medley relay that clocked a state record time of 1:33.50. Hartbarger owns personal best times of 50.21 in the 100 back, 1:48.43 in the 200 back, 1:52.55 in the 200 individual medley, 4:00.59 in the 400 individual medley and 2:06.31 in the 200 fly.
Hartbarger also swims for the Aces Swim Club under the direction of Eric Craven.
“Minnesota was Andrew’s top choice from day one,” said Tramel. “Andrew used to live in Eden Prairie, Minn., and swam for Ann Urschel at Team Foxjet before moving to Denver. The thing we are excited about is Andrew’s versatility. Immediately, we’d like to use him in the IM events, but he can do so many things well. Eric Craven, his coach at ACES in Centennial, told me he isn’t picky about what he swims either. Andrew truly has an attitude of ‘whatever the team needs me to do.’”
