The Minnesota men's tennis program announced today that Rochester, Minn., native Eric Frueh has signed an acceptance of admission.

The senior at Rochester Century High School is the three-time defending Section 1AA singles champion and has played first singles for the last five years. He has won six varsity letters and has been named his team's Most Valuable Player since seventh grade. The right-handed Frueh has been ranked in the top 80 in the country by the USTA in his age group for the last seven years and his highest career-ranking was No. 40.

"Eric is a fantastic competitor, who is beyond his years as a tennis player," said Minnesota coach Geoff Young. "He understands the game, making decisions on the court that will put him in a position to use his strengths to win points. He is able to do a little bit of everything on the court, allowing him to be flexible with his strategies depending on the strength of his opponents. I am excited to have him join our team and I think he'll be an excellent Gopher."

Frueh is a four-star recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net. He is an eight-time qualifier for the USTA Zone Team Championship, three-time qualifier for the USTA Intersectional Team and two-time qualifier for the USTA Junior Davis Cup. He was a 2008 USTA Northern Sectional Tournament doubles champion and singles runner-up in the same event.
