Scouting the Cowboys
Oklahoma State comes into the weekend with a No. 2 ranking while nine of the Cowboys' probable starters are ranked nationally by Intermat including Jordan Oliver, the top-ranked grappler at 133 lbs. Oliver earned the Big 12's Wrestler of the Month for November after picking up an 8-4 decision over Boise State's Andrew Hochstrasser (then ranked No. 1 at 133 lbs.) at the NWCA All-Star Classic. Oklahoma State is coached by John Smith in his 20th year with the Cowboys.
Cowboy Connection
This year marks J Robinson's 25th season leading the Minnesota wrestling program as head coach. While Robinson has become a college wrestling icon at Minnesota, he got his start at wrestling in Stillwater. Robinson graduated from Oklahoma State in 1969 before beginning his service in the military.
Welcome Back Boys
Four of Minnesota's all-time greats will be on hand for this Sunday's dual against the Cowboys. Former NCAA champion and current Bellator Heavyweight Champion (MMA) Cole Konrad will sign autographs prior to the meet while former NCAA champion Tim Hartung will be honored at halftime for his induction into the 'M' Club Hall of Fame. The Gophers will also honor NCAA champions Jayson Ness and Dustin Schlatter by unveiling banners in their honor prior to Sunday's dual against Oklahoma State.
