Golden Gopher junior Ben Peterson cleared a personal-best height of 17 feet, 7 1/4 inches to win the pole vault and top the headlines for the Minnesota men’s track & field team at the Macalester Bolstorff Twilight Meet in St. Paul on Wednesday evening. The vault is the best in the Big Ten this season and currently ranks 10th in the nation. Peterson moved up to No. 4 on the Minnesota all-time pole vault list.

Redshirt freshman Micah Hegerle continued his impressive rookie season with the Gophers. Hegerle won the discus with personal-best effort of 175-6 and placed second in the hammer with a throw of 201-5, the second time this season landing a toss over 200 feet.

Sophomore Addison Demer was the third Gopher champion collecting a victory in the long jump with a leap of 23-1 3/4.

Trey Davis (56-9 1/2) and Tyler Kleinhuizen (54-4 1/2) landed personal bests to finish second and third in the shot put, respectively. Kleinhuizen added another personal best and a second-place finish in the discus with a throw of 171-9.

Four other Gophers notched runner-up finishes. Brock Spandl finished second in the pole vault with a season-best effort of 16-11. A trio of Gophers placed second in events on the track: Sean Duling in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.99), Matt Volz in the 800 meters (1:54.53) and Jon Lenz in the 400-meter hurdles (54.24).

The meet was scored with Minnesota scoring 159 points to win the team title. A total of 19 teams, mostly local NCAA Division III teams, competed.
