The rowing team earned the department's Golden Goldy's award for the most community service done by a women's team. The Gopher rowers contributed 1,152 hours of service from a span of Sept. 1 to April 15th. The team averaged 17.73 hours per athlete during that time frame.
Although all of the Gophers contributed, three were key in helping the team win the award. Rebekah Brzozowski, who volunteered with the EMT for 450 hours. Alicia Hill logged 227 hours when she traveled to Georgia to work with Habitat for Humanity. She also volunteers with the organization in the Twin Cities Area as well. Lucy Mulvey also had triple-digit numbers when she had 102 hours. Mulvey is a working with the University's Geology department and assists students on campus.
This year's award marked the first for rowing. Track & field won the previous two years, while women's hockey won the award in 2007.
