Gophers Finish Seventh in Central Region

The University of Minnesota rowing team completed the 2010 Aramark South/Central Region Sprints, today in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and finished 10th overall and seventh in the Central Region. The Golden Gophers established 249 points today, while Wisconsin was first in the Central Region (405) and Virginia winning the overall sprints with 451 points.

Minnesota opened the second day of the sprints with a Petite Final win in the Varsity Four competition. The Gopher boat of coxswain Nicolle Fisher, Christine Beauparlant at stroke, Kathryn Switalski, Shannon Gates and Michele Peterson won the event in a time of 7:33.10. With the win, the Gophers gained 45 points. The Buckeyes were second in 7:35.13, while Notre Dame was third in 7:35.33.

Minnesota's Second Varsity Eight finished fourth in the Petite Final. The 2V8 that held coxswain Sara Baldvins, Teresa Logemann at stroke, Christine Cira, Katelyn Nichols, Debbie Brzozowski, Alli Fast, Alyssa Kast, Becky Kinchen and Rachel Sartor at bow, crossed the line in 7:01.10. Michigan State won the event in a time of 6:49.30, followed by Iowa (6:56.56) and Texas (7:00.09). With the fourth-place finish, the Gophers added another 78 points to the team's total.

The Gophers' 1V8 also competed in the Petite Final and finished fifth in the event, gaining 126 points. The Gophers' shell of coxswain Linnea Trandem, Cassie Drozynski, Erika Berg, Tracy Merth, Lucy Mulvey, Jenna Schuder, Sarah Krueger, Sarah Graham and Rebekah Brzozowski at bow clocked a time of 6:47.36. Ohio State won the event in 6:40.20, while Louisville was second in 6:41.72.
