The University of Minnesota men’s track & field team was one of 73 squads recognized with All-Academic status by the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Golden Gophers, the 2010 Big Ten Conference indoor and outdoor team champions, compiled a cumulative team grade point average of 3.14, the best in the Big Ten. Teams must earn a 3.0 cumulative team GPA to be eligible for the award.
In addition to the team honor, 10 Gophers were awarded USTFCCCA Track & Field All-Academic Honors: Raymond Blackledge, Oladipo Fagbemi, Micah Hegerle, Paul Hoplin, Tyler Kleinhuizen, R.J. McGinnis, David Pachuta, Joey Schwecke, Aaron Studt and Mike Torchia.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
“I’m proud of what our guys accomplished this season both on the track and in the classroom,” said Golden Gopher head coach Steve Plasencia. “To have our Golden Gophers rank at the top of the Big Ten in both their athletic and academic pursuits is something we are extremely excited about. What a great tribute to our team of student-athletes.”
