Men's Tennis Heads to Denver Pioneer Invitational

The men's tennis team opens the fall season this weekend at the Denver Pioneer Invitational in Denver, Colo. Coach Geoff Young is taking eight of his players to compete in the Sept. 24-26 event against competitors from host Denver and New Mexico.
The three-day competition will be held at the Gates Tennis Center. The only two Gophers not competing are senior Sebastian Gallego and freshman Ben Mirkin. Gallego is ranked No. 48 in the ITA National Preseason Singles Rankings.
Senior Tobias Wernet is the only other Gopher honored in the preseason rankings (No. 71) and will be competing in Denver.
Play begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, when Minnesota plays New Mexico in eight singles matches. The Gophers will play eight more singles matches against Denver at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 25, Minnesota plays Denver is four double matches at 1 p.m. and then plays New Mexico in eight singles matches at 2 p.m. The event concludes on Sunday, Sept. 26, with the Gophers playing Denver in eight singles matches at 10 a.m. before facing New Mexico in four doubles matches at 1 p.m.
Minnesota was 14-11 overall last season and 6-4 in Big Ten play.
