Gophers Finish Seventh at Windon Invitational

Entering the final round in a tie for seventh place, the Gophers carded a two-over par (286) in their last 18 holes to finish the 17 team Windon Memorial Invitational in ninth place at 24-over par (876).

Senior Donald Constable fired a two-under par 68 to lead the Gophers on Monday, earning him a tie for 12th (+12) in final standings following rounds of 72 and 75.  Sophomore Shang Zhi was the next best finisher for Minnesota with a tie for 40th. Senior Cameron White concluded in a tie for 53rd place, while fellow sophomores Erik Van Rooyen and David Haley Jr. ended in a tie for 50th.

Led by medalist Lion Kim, Michigan (854) held on to their 36 hole lead to win the Invitational by one stroke over Big Ten rival Ohio State (855). California (856) finished one stroke behind the Buckeyes for third place honors, while Tulsa (862) finished fourth. Purdue (868) and Indiana (868) tied for fifth place, besting host Northwestern (871) by three strokes.

Four of the top five individual scores hailed from Big Ten universities, as medalist Kim (207) edged Ohio State’s Bo Hoang (209), Purdue’s Adam Schenk (210), and Indiana’s David Erdy (211).

Minnesota is off until Oct. 10th when they head to Durham, N.C. to play in the Rod Myers Invitational.
