After an up-and-down day at Berkeley Hills Country Club, the Golden Gophers are in the middle of the pack entering the third and final round of the AutoTrader Collegiate Classic. They were in sixth through 18 holes, moved up and down the leaderboard in the second round, and settled back at sixth by the end of the day, with a combined team score of 591 (+15). Jon Trasamar had the best day for the Gophers and enters round three tied for 11th place.
"The second round could have been special," head coach John Carlson said, noting the team's hot start to the round. "We let it get away from us a little bit. But there was some great improvement among some of the younger players."
Trasamar posted a 1-over 73 followed by an even-par 72. Erik Van Rooyen moved up to a tie for 19th during round two, firing off a 1-under 71 after his earlier 76. Tim Peterzen is tied for 29th with scores of 74 and 76. Robert Bell (t-39th) shot a 76 and a 75. David Haley (t-50th) posted scores of 74 and 79.
North Florida leads the field with a 1-under team score of 575. Individually, Harold Varner of East Carolina is in the lead at -5, followed by Chattanooga's Stephan Jaeger at -4. In addition to Trasamar, four other golfers sit at +1, three shots out of third place.
