Gophers Earn Third Seed at Big Ten Tournament

The Big Ten Conference announced the seedings and pairings for the 2011 Men's Tennis Tournament today. Minnesota earned the third seed after finishing Big Ten play with an 8-2 record (17-4 overall). Ohio State is seeded first, while Indiana received the second seed.
The Gophers, who were awarded a first-round bye, will take on the winner of No. 6 seed Wisconsin (11-12, 5-5 Big Ten) and No. 11 Penn State (10-17, 0-10 Big Ten) in the second round. Minnesota won 5-2 at Wisconsin on Feb. 13 and defeated Penn State 6-1 on April 15 at home.
The tournament is scheduled to begin this Thursday, with first-round matches taking place beginning at 9 a.m. at the University of Wisconsin's Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Friday will feature quarterfinal matches beginning at 10 a.m., while Saturday will showcase the tournament semifinals starting at 10 a.m. Sunday's championship match is scheduled for Noon.
The Big Ten Network will broadcast the tournament on tape delay on Saturday, May 7 at 5 p.m.
