Gophers Face Michigan and MSU at Double Duals

The University of Minnesota rowing team competed at the Big Ten Double Duals, today in East Lansing, Mich. Minnesota fell to the Michigan Wolverines during the a.m., and won the First Novice Eight competition against Michigan State in the afternoon.
The First Varsity Eight faced two ranked teams in No. 8 Michigan State and No. 14 Michigan. Minnesota crossed the line in 6:55.87, while Michigan won the event in 6:48.62. Michigan State earned a time of 6:34.12 for a win in the afternoon session. The Gophers’ boat of coxswain Linnea Trandem , Cassie Drozynski at stroke, Molly Kalmoe, Tracy Merth, Erika Berg, Kayla Thom, Sarah Krueger, Rachel Sartor and Teresa Logemann at bow finished in a time of 6:43.43.
In Second Varsity Eight action, Michigan clocked a winning time of 6:55.40 while Minnesota came in second at 7:02.87. Although the Gophers bettered their time in the afternoon session, Michigan State came away with the win. The Spartans held a time of 6:45.81, while Minnesota’s boat of coxswain Sara Baldvins , Christine Beauparlant at stroke, Ellen Hughes , Leah Rogotzke, Kathryn Switalski , Katrina Pichelli, Ali Haws, Kate Ladell and Maddy Bourgeois held a time of 6:58.56.
The Gophers’ First Varsity Four fell in both the morning and afternoon races. Against the Wolverines, Minnesota held a time of 7:58.99 to Michigan’s 7:35.14. In the afternoon, Michigan State earned a time of 7:37.86 to Minnesota’s 7:46.48 and the win. In the Gopher boat was coxswain Nicolle Fisher, Alexandria Voss, Sarah Sobek, Debbie Brzozowski and Katie Anderson.
Minnesota clocked a time of 8:12.43, but Michigan came in first with a time 7:41.92. The Gopher boat of Emilie Sabourin , Caitlin Boon, Jenessa White, Mikaela Rogers and Allison Putlak at bow. Against MSU, the Spartans raced to a time of 7:56.01, while the Gophers finished in 8:12.47.
The Gophers’ First Novice Eight fell to Michigan in the morning session and defeated Michigan State in the afternoon. Michigan’s boat held a time of 6:56.90, while Minnesota came in second in 7:01.58. The Gopher boat of coxswain Olivia Vlahos, Katherine Windsor at stroke, Molly Gruber, Melissa Drezdzon, Chelsea Miller, Amber Meyer, Katherine Moran, Erica Revering and Nicolette Marquardt at bow, rebounded and won the afternoon race against the Spartans. The Gophers edged out MSU in a time of 7:02.08 to 7:03.85.
Minnesota opened the morning session in with the Second Novice Eight. Minnesota’s boat of coxswain Mahogany Ellis, Jen Kohl at stroke, McKenzie Fitzgerald, Kelly Brickl in the six seat, Kathryn DeSmidt, Deena Altschwager, Cassandra Meyer, Katherine Rosploch and Rebecca Curtis fell to Michigan by times of 7:32.55 to 7:15.67. Michigan State crossed the finish in a time of 7:14.98, while the Gophers trailed in 7:26.07.
