Gophers Face Badgers in Conference Dual

In a 2,000-meter race, the Gophers fell to the highly-ranked Badgers in the Varsity Eight. Minnesota, who was juggling lineups throughout the week, came fell to Wisconsin by times of 6:10.0 to 6:14.4. In the Gophers’ top boat was coxswain Linnea Trandem , Christine Beauparlant at stroke, Tracy Merth , Leah Rogotzke , Cassie Drozynski , Erika Berg , Kathryn Switalski , Molly Kalmoe and Rachel Sartor at bow.
Wisconsin, the defending Big Ten champions, edged Minnesota by nearly nine seconds in the Second Varsity Eight. Wisconsin crossed the finish line in 6:41.0, while the Gophers finished second in 6:50.4. Minnesota had Sara Baldvins as the coxswain, Teresa Logemann at stroke, Ellen Hughes , Sarah Krueger , Kayla Thom , Ali Haws , Katrina Pichelli , Becky Kinchen and Kate Ladell at bow.
Minnesota’s Varsity Four of Nicolle Fisher , Sarah Sobek at stroke, Maddy Bourgeois , Katie Anderson and Alexandria Voss at bow, clocked a time of 7:28.0. However, Wisconsin earned the win in a time of 7:25.0. The Badgers raced two boats in the Second Varsity Four, showing its depth. The Badgers held times of 7:36.4 and 7:47.4, while Minnesota was third in 7:58.2. In the Gopher boat was Emilie Sabourin , Caitlin Boon , Debbie Brzozowski , Jennifer VanVliet and Allison Putlak at bow.
The Badgers and Gophers split the Novice competition. Wisconsin won the First Novice Eight in 6:51.9, while Minnesota finished in 6:55.4. In the First Novice Eight was coxswain Olivia Vlahos, Katherine Windsor, Chelsea Miller, Melissa Drezdzon, Molly Gruber, Amber Meyer, Kate Moran, Erica Revering and Nicolette Marquardt at bow. The Gophers were victorious in the Second Novice Eight when it held nearly a four-second lead and the win. Minnesota earned a win in 7:14.6, while the Badgers were 7:18.3 and 7:30.3. Winning the 2N8 race was coxswain Mahogany Ellis, McKenzie Fitzgerald, Jen Kohl, Kelly Brickl, Mackenzie Strylund, Kathryn DeSmidt, Cassie Meyer, Katherine Rosploch, Becca Curtis at bow.
