Gopher 4x400m Relay 11th in NCAA Championships

The Minnesota men’s 4x400-meter relay finished 11th in the semifinals of the event at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday morning in Des Moines, Iowa. The race was moved to this morning after inclement weather suspended the meet on Thursday night.
The Golden Gophers’ relay of Jacob Capek, Harun Abda, Kevin Bradley and John Holton sprinted to a season-best time of 3 minutes, 6.83 seconds, finishing fourth in their heat and 11th overall. Minnesota was seeded 21st in the NCAA field comping into the meet. The top eight relays advanced to the event final on Saturday.
Capek, a redshirt freshmen accompanied by three sophomores, led for the Gophers in lane eight. At the first handoff, Minnesota was in sixth place. Abda took the baton and moved the Gophers into the fourth position, where Bradley and Holton would hold off the field the rest of the way. Holton ran an impressive anchor split of 46.38 seconds.
The time of 3:06.83 ranks No. 8 on the Minnesota top-10 list.
