The University of Minnesota Track and Field team has announced the signing of thrower Luke Johnson from Red Wing, Minn. Johnson has posted some thrilling distances in both the shot and discus during his high school days at Red Wing High School.

As a senior, Johnson competed at the University of Minnesota High School Indoor Classic last April and launched the shot put a season-best 61-4, which also set a meet record.

The University of Minnesota coaching staff couldn't be more excited for this late addition to the squad.

"We're very excited to add Luke Johnson to an already strong recruiting class," said Minnesota assistant coach Lyden Reder, who is the teams throwing coach.

In his junior season, Johnson set a personal-record in the discus with a toss of 180-3 at the Minnesota State High School 1AA Finals.

"We certainly believe Luke is capable of following in the strong tradition we've had here at Minnesota of developing our in-state talent into Big Ten and NCAA caliber throwers," said Reder. "We're glad he's a Gopher."
