No. 23 Minnesota Upsets No. 14 Missouri on the Road

The No. 23-ranked Minnesota men's swimming and diving team improved to 3-1 on the season by upsetting No. 14 Missouri, 177-120, Saturday afternoon at the Mizzou Aquatics Center. The Golden Gophers claimed victories in 11 of the 16 events raced, which included three titles for senior Zach Bolin.
Bolin claimed titles in the 50 freestyle (20.42), the 100 freestyle (44.62) and was part of the 400 freestyle relay team, along with Hrvoje Capan, Ben Griggs and Derek Toomey, that set a NCAA provisional qualifying time on its way to victory with a time of 2:59.21. Capan also placed first in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.53
CJ Smith was a two-time winner, placing first in the 1000 freestyle in 9:16.89 and the 500 freestyle in 4:32.88, while Josh Hall also place first in a pair of events. The junior won the 100 breaststroke after touching the wall in 55.19 and the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:01.70.
Also getting in on the action was sophomore Kyler Van Swol, who was another two-time victor at the event. Van Swol earned his first title in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:48.40, before posting win No. 2 in the 100 butterfly with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 47:63.
Carl Newenhouse rounded out the list of winners by placing first in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 1:50.43.
The Gophers finally return home to the University Aquatic Center to host the Big Ten Triple Duals vs. Purdue and Wisconsin Jan. 27-28.
