Minnesota Closes Out Day Two of ITAs

The Gopher women's tennis team found varying success on day two of the ITA Central Region Championships.
After a promising first round of doubles, in which the Gophers went 3-1 against opponents, the tables turned to a 1-2 rate of success in the second. Doron Muravnik and Tereza Brichacova remain as the only duo in the competition. Muravnik/Brichacova advance to tomorrow's action after defeating Simona Cacciuttolo/Ksenia Pronina (Iowa State) in the first round and Haley Martin/Melani Marlin (Oral Roberts) in the second, both by scores of 8-6.
Natallia Pintusava along with Paula Rincon-Otero and Aria Lambert with Jessika Mozia also notched wins in the opening round of 64 before falling in the 32. Pintusava/Rincon-Otero moved past St. Louis' BrookeUrzndowski and Mia Elmore with an 8-4 victory. Lambert/Mozia picked up an 8-5 win over Steff Hollis/Mara Toro (St. Louis).
On the singles side, only one of seven competitors was able to advance past the first round. Paula Rincon-Otero easily defeated fellow Big Ten player 6-4, 6-3 to move on. The same could not be said for the second round. Rincon-Otero fell to Oklahoma State's Malika Rose, 6-3, 6-2, to end her run at the event.
Tereza Brichacova, Julia Courter, Aria Lambert, Jessika Mozia, Natallia Pintusava, and Yuliana Umanets moved into the consolation bracket after opening round losses. After on match, two remain in contention heading into tomorrow. Natallia Pintusava defeated Makia Zeppernick (Nebraska) and Aria Lambert defeated Abbi Melrose (Oklahoma), the two will play each other.
The ITA Regional Championship continues tomorrow with two rounds of main draw doubles at 9 a.m. followed by one round of singles at 1 p.m.
