Minnesota Gears Up for Spartan Invite

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis team will continue its 2025 fall season at the Spartan Invite this weekend.
 
The Spartan Invite is scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center in East Lansing, Mich.
 
Tournament Format
Minnesota will open play at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, against Xavier in doubles before facing Indiana in singles later that afternoon. The Gophers return to action Saturday with doubles matches against Indiana and Michigan State beginning at 10 a.m., followed by singles against Xavier at 1 p.m. Minnesota wraps up the three-day event Sunday, Nov. 2, with singles competition against Michigan State starting at 9 a.m.
 
Gopher Participants
Seven Gophers will compete at the Spartan Invite: seniors Sofia Pinto, Arina Valitova and Anali Kocevar, and juniors Jeselle Ante, Anlin Xie and Mia Liepert, and sophomore Nora Knezevic.
Fall Season Recap
The Gophers finished the 13th annual Gopher Invitational with a 6-1 record in doubles and a 7-2 mark in singles. Knezevic led Minnesota, going 5-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles.
Liepert, Aiva Schmitz and Kocevar became the first Gophers to play in the ITA All-American Championships since 2015. Liepert earned a notable win in a consolation match, defeating UCLA's Bianca Fernandez 7-6 (10-8), 6-2. Schmitz and Ante also headlined the 'U' at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, advancing to the quarterfinals, with Schmitz reaching the tournament final before falling to Kansas State's Martaa Chogsomjav 6-3, 6-4.
Minnesota competed in the Cyclone Invite on Oct. 3-5, earning points over Iowa and Kansas State. Ante continued her strong fall season, finishing 3-0 in singles and adding a doubles win against Kansas State. The Gophers most recently competed at the ITA Central Regional Championships from Oct. 16-18, where Kocevar and Ante advanced to the round of 32 in the main draw, and Kocevar finished the weekend 3-1 in singles play.
