Toledo to Compete at National Indoor Championships

Men's Singles Main Draw

Minnesota sophomore Leandro Toledo will compete at the ITA National Indoor Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Toledo is the first Gopher since 2002 to qualify for the four-day event. The last Minnesota representative to do so was Harsh Mankad. Mankad, who was also a sophomore and the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year, ended up winning the competition.

Toledo qualified by placing second in the ITA Central Regional Championship on Oct. 22 at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn. Toledo, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, went 5-1 on the weekend to earn a spot in the Singles Round of 32.

The first day of competition is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 8 and will begin at 8:00 a.m. CT. Toledo is set to face John Lamble of Santa Clara midday at 11:30 a.m. To follow along with the action,click here.
