The Minnesota men's tennis team stayed perfect at home with a 5-2 win over DePaul on Sunday afternoon. The Gophers improved to 3-3 on the season after losing three straight matches against highly-ranked opponents and recorded their second win of the weekend after taking down No. 61 Arizona 7-0 on Saturday.
For the third straight match, Minnesota took a 1-0 lead by wining the doubles point.
Freshman Leandro Toledo and sophomore Juan Pablo Ramirez got things started by beating DU's Matija Palinic Aaron Chaffee 8-4. Jack Hamburg and Phillip Arndt clinched the point by downing Mathias Hambach and Sven Kasper in a tiebreaker at No. 2, finishing with a 9-8 (5) score.
The No. 50-ranked duo of Rok Bonin and Julian Dehn also won in a tiebreaker, winning its fifth straight match to start the season, 9-8 (2).
In singles play, Dehn kept the Gophers' run going by winning in straight sets over Hambach, 6-1, 6-1. Hamburg used his second career dual match singles victory to put Minnesota on the brink of winning with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 6.
Bonin finished off the Blue Demons at the third position, dispatching Kasper 6-4, 6-1. He now leads the team in singles wins on the spring season with four.
Toledo became the 10th straight Gopher to win in straight sets on the weekend with a win at No. 2 to make it 5-0 before DePaul closed out the match with match tiebreaker wins at the first and fifth positions.
The Gophers are now 2-0 against DU all-time after sweeping the Blue Demons in 2009.
After a week off next week, Minnesota will open Big Ten play by hosting Border Battle rival Wisconsin on Feb. 25.
