The Golden Gophers are set to play an exhibition match against Mesa Community College on Saturday, Feb. 25. The Gophers and Thunderbirds will face off at Longbow Golf Club, a desert links-style course, in Mesa, Ariz.
Minnesota is coming off of a good performance at the Big Ten Match Play Championships a few weeks ago. The Gophers defeated No.1 seed Illinois en route to a second-place finish in the event. Even though their upcoming competition is an exhibition match, the Gophers are not looking at is as a let-down from the Match Play.
"It's the same mindset that we took into the match against Michigan--our first match in the Big Ten Match Play," head coach John Carlson said. "We go there with a purpose, and we want to accomplish what we need to and get a W."
Notes: Erik Van Rooyen leads the Gophers with a 73.26 stroke average over Minnesota's five stroke play tournaments this season...the Gophers' head-to-head record stands at 40-28-1 (.580)...Minnesota's next event is the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., from March 16-18.
