Updated Season Stats

The 35th-ranked Minnesota men's tennis team earned its third consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Big Ten border rival Wisconsin 6-1 at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Gophers are now 4-3 on the season, including a 4-0 mark at home, and have won their last three matches against UW.

For the fourth match in a row, Minnesota jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles competition.

No. 32-ranked tandem Rok Bonin and Julian Dehn got things starting by taking down Wisconsin's Fredrik Ask and Billy Bertha 8-5 at the top flight. Moments later, Phillip Arndt and Jack Hamburg finished off Alexander Kostanov and Petr Satral to clinch the point.

Bonin and Dehn are now 6-0 on the spring and are 25-3 together over the last two seasons. That mark includes a 16-1 ledger in dual-match play.

After playing to a 7-7 score through 14 games, Leandro Toledo and Juan Pablo Ramirez completed the sweep of the doubles point with an 8-6 tiebreaker win.

The Gophers would carry the momentum from their doubles win into single play.

Jack Hamburg stayed perfect at home with a 3-0 record at the Baseline Tennis Center by beating Rod Carey 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5. Bonin then pushed the Badgers to the brink of a loss by dispatching Petr Satral 6-0, 6-1 at the third spot.

Bonin leads Minnesota with five singles wins. He has a 5-1 record and has played all of his matches at No. 3.

Minnesota clinched the win when Toledo notched his fourth win of the season at the second position, winning 6-2, 6-4 against Kostanov.

The Badgers got their only win of the day in the form of a match tiebreaker at the top position. After Arndt erased a 6-4 first-set loss with a 6-1 win in the second set against Ask, the Wisconsin sophomore pulled out a 10-7 victory in an abbreviated third set.

Dehn and Ramirez closed out the match with wins at No. 4 and 6, respectively, to make it a 6-1 final.

All-time, Minnesota is now 58-47 against the Badgers.

Next Saturday, Minnesota begin a string of four straight road matches with a contest against No. 37 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. The Gophers will return home on March 23 when they take on 56th-ranked Michigan State in their second Big Ten match.
