The Golden Gophers will play in the 33rd annual Schenkel Invitational this weekend in Statesboro, Ga. The tournament runs March 16-18, with one round played each day. Live results will be available via golfstat.com.

Minnesota played an exhibition match against Mesa Community College a few weeks ago, but its last event before that was the Big Ten Match Play Championships on Feb. 10 and 11. The Gophers earned an impressive second-place finish there and look to build off of that success.

"We set some lofty spring goals," head coach John Carlson said. "The guys accomplished those at Big Ten Match Play, but we have so much more on our horizon."

The field: Along with Minnesota, the field will include Alabama, defending champion Auburn, Florida, host Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Mississippi, N.C. State, North Florida, Notre Dame, South Carolina, UAB, Vanderbilt, and Virginia. In Golfweek's rankings, Auburn and Alabama sit at second and third, respectively. Several other teams are in the top 30. "We look forward to that competition," Carlson said.

The course: Par-72 Forest Heights Country Club plays at about 7,100 yards. "It gives a little bit of room off the tee, but demands precise second shots," Carlson said.

Notes: The Gophers tied for seventh in last year's event…Erik Van Rooyen leads the team with a 73.26 stroke average in 15 rounds…Minnesota's next event is the FAU Spring Break Invitational (March 23-25).
