Despite recording one of the best performances of his career, senior David Pachuta was unable to advance to the 800m final at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. on Saturday night.

Pachuta improved upon his quarterfinal time, finishing 1:46.83, just .21 seconds shy of his school-record mark set earlier this year at the 2012 NCAA Championships. The time placed him fifth and was the ninth fastest time of the day, placing him outside of the qualifiers as only the top three in each heat and the two next fastest overall times would advance.

Pachuta ran in the first heat of the semifinals against the top competitors of the day, including eight-time USA National Champion Khadevis Robinson. Five of the eight in his heat advanced to the final race on Monday.
