Gophers Finish Fourth at Big Tens

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Minnesota men's cross country team finished fourth at the 2013 Big Ten Men's Cross Country Championships on Sunday, totaling 136 team points.

The Gophers were paced by seniors Derek Storkel and Andrew Larsen in 16th and 18th, respectively. Storkel's 16th-place finish marked the senior's best career finish at the Big Ten championships as the Tomah, Wis., native crossed the finish line at 24:47.1. Larsen followed moments later at 24:49.5.

In his second appearance at the conference meet, sophomore Adam Zutz finished 25th with a time of 25:03.1 while Alex Brend came in 36th with a time of 25:17.0.

Christian Skaret made his first appearance at the Big Ten championships on Sunday, crossing the finish line at 25:23.3 to finish in 44th place and round out the Gophers scoring group.

Also running for the Gophers were Marcus Paulson (50th, 25:27.8), Steve Sulkin (51st, 25:28.7) and John Simons (88th, 26:36.3).

Indiana took the 2013 Big Ten team title with 51 points ahead of Michigan (66) and Wisconsin (71) while Wisconsin's Malachy Schrobilgen won the individual crown with a time of 24:16.9.

The Gophers return to action at the Fall Finale in Collegeville, Minn., on Friday, Nov. 8 before competing at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, Nov. 15.
