Despite having a number of lengthy rain delays at the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin Texas, the University of Minnesota women's track and field team had a number of competitors put forth strong efforts late into the night.

In the 400-meter dash, Megan Geyen came within nine-hundredths of a second from surpassing her personal record time (53.72). The junior finished with a time of 53.81, which was a half second from qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Alena Brooks and Te'Shon Adderley posted speedy times in the final heat of the 800-meter run as Adderley posted a personal best time of 2:06.38, which is now third all-time in Minnesota history. Brooks edged out her fellow teammate with a time of 2:06.25, but it was still fourth tenths from qualifying for a trip to Eugene.

Former women's basketball star Katie Loberg also competed as she cleared 5-5 (1.65m) in the high jump.

The 3,000-meter steeplechase capped off the night as Katie Moraczewski and Kelli Budd competed. Moraczewski came five seconds away from advancing to the NCAA Championships as she ran the race in 10:14.87 to finish 16th, just tenths of seconds off her personal best. Budd finished in a time of 10:34.67, which topped her previous-best time and keeps her seventh all-time.

Only two Gophers remain on the competition schedule for the NCAA West Preliminary with Emily Betz in the javelin and Laura Docherty in the 5,000-meter run. Betz throws at 5 p.m., while Docherty doesn't run until 8:05 p.m.
