Mendez started off 2-under on his first nine holes of the second round, but ended up even for the round to stay at 3-under overall, where he is tied for 12th. Rúnar Arnorsson turned in a 1-under second round to follow up his morning 72. He and DuToit (73 in second round) are tied for 30th.
All five Gophers are near even par. Matt Rachey is 2-over after rounds of 71 and 73, and Riley Johnson is one shot behind after carding a 73 and 72.

After the first day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, the Golden Gophers are in eighth place with a 2-under-par team score of 566. The team was in 11th place after the first round, then moved into the top five during the afternoon, but fell back later in the second round.
Jose Mendez and Jon DuToit carded under-par scores in the first round. Mendez made five birdies to two bogeys for a 3-under 68 in the morning. DuToit birdied eight holes and had two bogeys and two doubles for a 69. Mendez's morning round was his fourth under-par round of the fall season.
