Ettrick, Wis. (GopherSports.com) - With seven runners in the top 25 and its top four finishers posting new personal records, the No. 27 Minnesota men's cross country team picked up its second team title of the season on Saturday by winning the 2014 Jim Drews Invitational.

The Gophers posted 55 team points to win the UW-La Crosse's eight-kilometer race at the Ettrick Golf Club.

"The guys today went in knowing this was a chance to show what they could do, and all seven of them did a great job," Minnesota Director of Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Steve Plasencia said. "They were focused and ready to go. Now we need to carry that into the upcoming Big Ten meet."

Four of Minnesota's five scorers (Riley Macon, Brad Woodford, Cole O'Brien and Eric Colvin) recorded new personal eight-kilometer records on Saturday morning while the fifth (Matthew Jergenson) factored into the team's scoring in his first career eight-kilometer race.

Riley Macon, a redshirt sophomore out of Rochester, Minn., led the charge for the Maroon & Gold on Saturday with a time of 24:58.41 to finish seventh overall.

Brad Woodford and Cole O'Brien finished seconds later in ninth and 10th, respectively. A redshirt freshman from Waukesha, Wis., Woodford posted a time of 25:06.32 while O'Brien, a redshirt sophomore from Burnsville, Minn., clocked a 25:13.48.

Eric Colvin, a redshirt freshman out of Lake Elmo, Minn., followed the trio across the finish line with a time of 25:22.73 to finish 14th while Matthew Jergenson, a junior out of Caledonia, Minn., was one spot back in 15th with a time of 25:23.68.

Freshman Derek Wiebke (20th, 25:26.69), redshirt freshman Wayde Hall (23rd, 25:43.82) and redshirt freshman Matt Welch (33rd, 26:01.29) also competed for the Gophers at the 2014 Jim Drews Invitational but did not factor into the team's scoring.

Today's title for the Gophers marks the second of the season following the Gophers' win at the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 13.

The championship season looms for the Gophers following this weekend's action as the Maroon & Gold will compete at the 2014 Big Ten Championship in Iowa City, Iowa on Nov. 2. Minnesota finished fourth at the event a year ago with 136 points and return three of the team's five scorers from last year in Adam Zutz, Alex Brend, and Christian Skaret.
