Final Stats

The University of Minnesota volleyball program fell in four sets, 25-18, 20-25, 20-25, 33-35, to Indiana, tonight in Bloomington, Ind. The Golden Gophers drop to 14-8 on the season and 4-7 in Big Ten play. 



Minnesota was led by Paige Tapp, who had 13 kills in 23 attempts and hit .478. Hannah Tapp had seven kills in 18 attempts to hit .333. Daly Santana had a team-high 14 kills and accomplished a double-double with 14 digs. Hannah Tapp also had a match-high eight blocks. Katie Schau started the match and had 14 assists before leaving the match due to an injury. Erica Handley came for her and finished the night with 32 assists.  Indiana had 67 kills to Minnesota's 52, while the Gophers held a 64-61 dig advantage. Both teams added 13 blocks.

The Gophers travel to No. 13 Purdue, Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. CT. The match is televised live on the Big Ten Network.

Set 1: Minnesota opened the match with a 25-18 first set win. Minnesota hit .520 in the opening set as Paige Tapp and Sarah Wilhite each had five kills, followed by Adrianna Nora with three. The Gophers also capitalized and received three blocks in the set. The Gophers opened up the first set with an 8-3 lead as they forced Indiana to use its first timeout, capped off by a Wilhite kill. Wilhite also forced Indiana to burn its second timeout as she put the Gophers up, 20-12. Indiana would cut the Gopher lead to 23-16 on a kill and a block, but Nora added back-to-back blocks for set point and to put the Gophers up, 1-0.

Set 2: After 15 tie scores and five lead changes, Indiana took the second set, 25-20. The Hoosiers produced six blocks in the set to Minnesota's two. The teams exchanged points and leads all the way until the 17-point mark as Indiana strung together a 20-17 lead. It proved to be all that the Hoosiers would need as they held the lead for the remainder of the set. The Hoosiers closed out the set on two kills and their sixth block of the set to tie the match, 1-1. Handley came into the match in the middle of the set as Schau left the remainder of the match due to an injury.

Set 3: Indiana took a 2-1 lead on a 25-20 third set lead. The Hoosiers jumped out to an 8-5 lead which forced Minnesota to take an early timeout. Indiana then took a 19-13 lead as the Gophers called its second timeout of the set. Minnesota attempted a comeback as it earned a kill from Santana to put it at 20-16 and 21-17 on a kill from Rosado. The Hoosiers, however, finished off the set with a kill from Amelia Anderson to go up a set on the Gophers. Indiana hit .231 in the set to Minnesota's .081.

Set 4: Despite Minnesota hitting .327 in the fourth set, the Hoosiers took the match with a thrilling and extended 35-33 set win. As the two teams were tied at 9-9, Indiana went on a 5-1 run to take a 15-10 lead. Minnesota, however, came back to eventually tie the set at 19-19. Indiana pushed back and would take a 23-21 lead off a Gopher attack error and trailed 24-22. The Gophers, however, would come back and tie the match at 24 on a kill from Paige Tapp, while she and Handley combined for a block. From then on, the two teams would tie the set seven more times. Minnesota nearly closed out as late as 32-31. However, Indiana would fight back and tie the set at 33. They closed out the match on a kill and an ace for the win.
