Gophers Visit Meadowview Elementary

Six Golden Gopher student athletes were at Meadowview Elementary on Friday, November 7 in Farmington, Minnesota, to talk about living healthy.
Student athletes made their way to Farmington, Minnesota for an all-school demonstration that talked about the importance of staying physically active and eating healthy, something that Meadowview P.E. teacher Joe McCarthy is very passionate about as well. The student-athletes tested the elementary student's knowledge in exchange for prizes. They also taught them helpful stretches and gave some healthy snack tips.
Attending the event were athletes from both the women's hockey and golf teams. Hockey's Kelsey Cline, Milica McMillen, Sidney Peters and Megan Wolfe were a part of it, as well as freshmen Heather Ciskowski and Sabrine Garrison from the golf team.
"We were struck by all the volunteer opportunities that we have at the U and we took it upon ourselves to help the community," said golf's Heather Ciskowski about her first volunteer trip. "We started to realize the impact we have as athletes, and how important it is to stay active and do well in school. So for us to be able to voice that to kids and have an impact is really special. It gives us a great feeling and I'm really happy right now having experienced it."
Along with the first-timers, hockey's Milica McMillen was one of the most experienced volunteers on the trip. "It's just a lot of fun to give back to the community and to give back to kids, and really anyone who needs it," she said. "It's really impactful, what student-athletes do here, and it's a nice program that we have that allows us to go out and volunteer all the time. I continue to do it because I really enjoy it. It's not to get so hours, it's because of all the things that MAGIC does really makes you feel good about yourself and giving back."
