Gophers Sign Chaska's Duerr

MINNEAPOLIS (Gophersports.com) – The University of Minnesota track & field and cross country program has signed Chaska High School’s Joey Duerr to a National Letter of Intent, Minnesota Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Steve Plasencia announced on Friday.
Duerr joins fellow signees Connor Olson, Justin Hyytinen, Jonathan Tharaldsen, Shane Streich, Jonathon Johnson, Josh Tracy, Gemechu Godi and Jack Wellenstein as future Gophers.
A senior at Chaska High School, Duerr was the runner-up at the 2014 Minnesota State Class 2A with a personal record time of 15:23.3. Duerr joins Class 2A champion Connor Olson and Class A champion Shane Streich as Gopher signees this season. Duerr is a four-time state competitor and a two-time Section 2AA champion with back-to-back wins in his final two years as a prep.
On the track, Duerr is coming off a junior season that saw him finish fourth in the state 3,200 meters and seventh in the 1,600 meters. Duerr finished fourth in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200 at the state meet as a sophomore in 2013.
