Gophers Fifth in B1G Preseason Poll

MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 7 University of Minnesota men's gymnastics team earned a fifth-place ranking in the 2015 Big Ten Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the conference office on Thursday.
Ohio State University earned the first-place ranking from the league's coaches. Michigan, who repeated as National Champions in 2014 and have won 17 Big Ten Championship titles, followed the Buckeyes while the University of Illinois rounded out the top three.
Penn State, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska completed the Big Ten poll in fourth through seventh place respectively.
The 2015 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list was released with the coaches' poll and mentioned two senior Gopher student-athletes. Reigning NCAA Pommel Horse champion Ellis Mannon and teammate Steve Jaciuk were named to the prestigous list. Seven All-Big Ten honorees will return to competition in 2015 and were named as gymnasts to watch including Minnesota's Mannon.
Mannon, an Indianapolis, Ind. native, earned his first national championship on the pommel horse in 2014 after finishing second on the aparatus in 2013. Mannon earned the Big Ten title on the pommel horse last season. He is a two-time All-American honoree and earned CGA Second Team All-American Scholar-Athlete honors in 2014. At the NCAA Championships in April, Mannon earned an eleventh place finish in the all-around competition.
Jaciuk is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten and CGA Second Team All-America Scholar-Athlete. Last season, he earned the Gophers' Outstanding Championship Competitior Award. He finished ninth in the nation on high bar (14.550) as one of five Gophers to compete in the event finals on the final day of the NCAA Championship in 2014. The 2015 season will mark his third as a captain for the Maroon and Gold.
The Gophers will kick off their 2015 campaign on Jan. 10 at the Sports Pavilion as they host their annual exhibition Alumni Meet. The competition will kick off at 1 p.m. CT. Minnesota will open the regular season by traveling to the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ill. on Jan. 17
