Gophers Through Day 2 of NCAA Championships

Day two of the NCAA Championships continued at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin today, with the Gophers competing in four events.
200 Medley Relay
Freshman backstroke swimmer Daryl Turner led Minnesota's 200 medley relay, followed by Nick Hatanaka, Kyler Van Swol, and Derek Toomey. The relay finished in 18th place with a time of 1:26.12.
400 IM
Jakub Maly qualified for tonight's finals, seeded 11th, in the 400 IM after a personal record time of 3:44.17.
During finals, freshman Maly finished with a time of 3:46.97 for 15th place.
100 Fly
Senior Kyler Van Swol went 46.41 during prelims of the 100 fly for 18th place. Kyler currently holds the Minnesota school record in the event, with a best time of 46.16.
3-Meter Diving
Freshman Matt Barnard represented the Gophers on the 3-meter boards this afternoon, totaling 317.35 points in the event for 30th place. Going into the sixth round, Matt was in 8th place, and unfortunately hit the board during his dive. While receiving medical attention, Barnard appeared to be in good spirits.
After day two of the NCAA Championships, the Gophers have 25 points and are in 22nd place.
Saturday's Schedule
The third and final day of the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will include:
200 Backstroke
100 Freestyle - Derek Toomey
200 Breaststroke
200 Butterfly - Kyler Van Swol
400 Freestyle Relay
Platform Diving - Matt Barnard (Scratched from event, due to injury)
1650 Freestyle - CJ Smith
