Gophers Pick Up Four Titles in Wisconsin

LA CROSSE, Wis. (GopherSports.com) -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field program tallied four titles on Friday afternoon at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open.
Wally Ellenson set a new personal record while winning the high jump on Friday, clearing 2.21 meters (7-03.00 ft.) while Nick Bachinski (1.92 meters, 6-03.50 ft.) and Jamie Crum (1.92 meters, 6-03.50 ft.) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in a jump off.
The Gophers boasted five of the top six finishers in the 1,500 meters on Friday including Christian Skaret, who won the event in 3:50.98. Derek Storkel came in second at 3:53.91 while Aaron Bartnik was third at 3:55.00. Andrew Larsen finished fifth at 3:57.07 while Josh Thorson came in sixth at 3:47.86.
Meanwhile, Brad Neumann cruised to the title in the 200 meters, crossing the finish line at 21.70.
The 4x100 meter relay team also picked up the win on Friday with a time of 40.97 -- the school's fastest time of the year for the event.
The Gophers also picked up a second-place finish from Ben Holcomb in the 110-meter hurdles (14.70), a third-place finish by Mitchell Hechsel in the 800 meters (1:52.00) and a sixth-place finish from Bradley Johnson in the 400 meters (48.65).
Minnesota returns to action next weekend with the 2014 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Lafayette, Ind.
