MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - After a stellar showing at the 2014 NCAA West Prelims last weekend, the University of Minnesota men's track & field program earned its first national ranking of the season on Tuesday morning.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) placed the Golden Gophers 23rd in this week's national poll - the final poll by the organization until after the NCAA championships.

Minnesota boasts five student-athletes heading to the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 11-14, in Eugene, Ore.

The Gophers return a pair of All-Americans from last year's NCAA championships squad in John Simons (1,500 meters) and Wally Ellenson (high jump) while Big Ten champion Zach Siegmeier (pole vault), Dominique Howard (discus) and Jon Lehman (hammer throw) are all set for their first appearance at the NCAA championships.
