Four members of the Minnesota women's gymnastics team earned National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) academic awards for their performance in the classroom in the 2013-14 season. Senior Kylie Schermann, junior Lindsay Mable, and sophomores Athena Geisness and Bailey Abernathy were honored Tuesday.

To qualify for the award, student-athletes must carry a 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA) for the academic year. As a team, Minnesota achieved a cumulative 3.2993 GPA, the fourth-highest among Big Ten schools.

Schermann, who is studying human resources and industrial relations, was also an Academic All-Big Ten selection. Mable, who was also an academic all-conference honoree as well as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, is an elementary education major.

Both Abernathy and Geisness have yet to declare majors.

The Golden Gophers are coming off a 2013-14 season that saw the team go 27-6, defend its Big Ten regular-season championship, and make a 19th-consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. Both Mable and classmate Hanna Nordquist earned All-America honors for the second time in as many seasons with the program.
