Mendez's 71 was Minnesota's best score on the last day of the tournament. A trio of Gophers-Tyler Lowenstein, Daniel Luftspring and Rúnar Arnorsson-carded 75s to complete the scoring. Lowenstein and Luftspring tied for 59th (+12).
"We were certainly hoping for a better finish following a solid performance at the Gopher Invitational," head coach John Carlson said. "Jose was edged out by a great round today for the victory, but his performance this week was, yet again, outstanding."

Jose Mendez tied for second at the Windon Memorial Classic in Skokie, Ill. The sophomore finished with a 4-under-par score of 206, one stroke behind the medalist. Minnesota finished 13th as a team.
Mendez has finished in the top 10 of his last seven collegiate tournaments. He has nine career top-10 finishes overall, including six in the top five.
On Monday, Mendez was 4-over on the day through 12 holes, then birdied three straight holes to get back to 4-under overall and reclaim the lead. But Tulsa's Colton Staggs surged to a victory with a 7-under 63.

Minnesota will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate starting this Friday.
