The University of Minnesota men's golf team finished 14th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, held in Albuquerque.
Jose Mendez moved up seven spots on the leaderboard from yesterday. Finishing 5-over-par, Mendez tied for 17th overall when he carded a 74 in the third round. In the three rounds, he carded a 71 the first, a 76 the second and finished with a 74 for the third. The 17th-place finish marked his 13th career top-20 finish for the Gophers. He is also 3-for-3 this year on top-20s.
Jon DuToit held the Gophers' second-best score when he finished 12-over-par and tied for 47th overall with a third-round 76 score. He improved his score from the second round and moved up the leaderboard from 55th to 47th. Runar Arnorsson finished in a tie for 64 (16-over-par). Daniel Luftspring tied for 80th overall, followed by Tyler Lowenstein, who tied for 90th.
Minnesota finished 53-over-par as a team and held a 307 third-round score. Host New Mexico won its own tournament when it carded 295 as a team 15 strokes ahead of second-place Texas Tech.
Minnesota's next competition is the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Oct. 13-14 in Fairfax, Calif., at Meadow Club.
