Austria-native Jakub Maly was named 'Big Ten Freshman of the Year' after his performances at the 2014 B1G Championships. The rookie had four top-ten finishes throughout the four days of competition.
During the first night of competition, Maly was the anchor leg in the 800 free relay, finishing with a split time of 1:36.90. The relay team finished 6th overall with a time of 6:26.19.
Maly then went on to place 8th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.98 and 5th in the 400 IM with a time of 3:44.84.
Finally in the 200 breaststroke, Maly finished with a time of 1:56.64 for 10th place.
Maly enjoys the balance of having so much fun with the team and being ready to work very hard in practice each day. The enthusiasm of each of Minnesota's coaches is what drives him to become a better swimmer. This honor underlines that he will be someone to watch in his sophomore season.
