Gophers Sweep Meet Against Ohio State

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota looked strong in each rotation on Saturday night, outscoring Ohio State in all four events to defeat the Buckeyes, 196.325-194.550, at the Sports Pavilion. In addition to winning all four events as a team, three Gophers gymnasts combined to win all four individual titles. Saturday's victory improves Minnesota's overall record to 3-2 this season, with a 2-1 mark in the Big Ten.

Lindsay Mable once again outpaced the field during the competition, posting an all-around score of 39.500 to win a fifth consecutive all-around crown. Looking at individual events, Mable tied her season-high with a 9.900 on the vault and set a new season best with a 9.950 on the floor exercise, earning a pair of individual titles. She has now won two straight floor exercise title and 11 individual titles overall.

The Gophers started the meet by scoring 49.000 on the vault. Behind Mable's meet-best 9.900, Bailey Gardner, Cierra Tomson and Jenny Covers rounded out the top-three scores for the Gophers in the event, producing 9.800 and 9.775 respectively.

In its second rotation, Minnesota performed on the uneven bars, where Bailie Holst led the way with a score of 9.825, followed closely by Mable and Covers, each of whom scored a 9.800. Looking further down the individual results, a 9.775 from Madeline Hanley gave the Gophers the top four individual scores in the event. As a team, the Gophers posted a 48.925 on the bars.

The second half of the competition saw the Gophers begin on the beam, where the Maroon and Gold scored 49.125, led by Hanna Nordquist's 9.900, Mable's 9.850 and Hanley's 9.825. Their three scores were the three highest among all competitors in Saturday's meet.

Minnesota wrapped up its evening on floor, where Mable posted a 9.950, the highest individual score in any single event during the meet. Tomson's 9.900 was the meet's second-best floor exercise score.

The Gophers head out on the road for their next competition, which will be in Champaign, Ill. against the University of Illinois next Saturday, February 7, beginning at 4 p.m. CT.
