After starting the spring season at the Big Ten Match Play Championship, the Gophers will get back into stroke play at the Puerto Rico Classic. The 54-hole tournament will take place Feb. 22-24 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, at the Rio Mar River Course.

The travel squad: Jose Mendez, Rúnar Arnorsson, Jon DuToit, Riley Johnson, Charlie Duensing and William Leaf are making the trip to Rio Grande. It will be the first road trip with Minnesota to a stroke play event for Duensing and Leaf, who both traveled to the Big Ten Match Play Championship.

The field: Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and Clemson are all in Golfweek's top 30. East Tennessee State, Georgia, N.C. State, UNC Greensboro, Michigan, Tulsa and Nebraska join Minnesota and host Purdue.

The course: The River Course has a par of 72 and plays at 6,902 yards. Greg Norman's course design uses the river and wetlands for obstacles outside the fairway.
