Gopher Win 13 Titles at South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. - The Minnesota women's track & field team collected 13 event titles and Emma Spagnola ran the eighth-fastest 100m hurdles time in program history as the Gophers opened the 2015 outdoor season on the road in a dual at South Alabama on Friday.
Spagnola won both the 100m hurdles (14.18 seconds) and 400m hurdles (61.65 seconds) as the Gophers won nine events on the track, including two relay titles, and took home four field event titles.
Emerald Egwim (200m, 25.03), Erin Hawkins (400m, 56.35), Lauren Domski (800m, 2:11.16) and Kaila Urick (1,500m, 4:30.68) all ran outdoor career-best times to win their respective events. Liz Berkholtz also won the 3,000m in 10:07.12.
Minnesota picked up titles in both the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay as well. The 4x100m team of Kat Keller, Egwim, Jessica Waldvogel and Hawkins won in 46.89, while the 4x400m team of Domski, Titania Markland, Spagnola and Frances Conlin posted a first-place time of 3:53.85.
In the field events, Heta Tuuri won high jump with a leap of 1.65m, Agnes Esser won the discus at 51.42m, Devin Stanford won the hammer at 60.01m and Rachel Melum won the javelin with a career-best throw of 44.90m.
Audra Winter led the Gophers in the long jump with a second-place jump of 5.41m to tie her career best. Minnesota also posted a runner-up finish in the shot put as Kailee Kamps placed second at 13.94m.
Up next for the Gophers is the Baylor Invite in Waco, Texas, on Friday, April 3 and the two-day Stanford Invitational, Friday-Saturday, April 3-4.
