MINNEAPOLIS - The 25th-ranked Minnesota men's tennis team collected a 7-0 win against No. 45 Iowa Friday night at the Baseline Tennis Center. The victory upped the Gophers' record on the season to 11-5 and moved their Big Ten ledger to 2-0. They remained unbeaten at home, improving to 8-0.

The victory was the team's sixth over a ranked foe this season. The Gophers avenged a 4-3 loss of the hands of the Hawkeyes from the teams' 2014 conference opener. That result ended a 15-match win streak for the Maroon and Gold against Iowa that dated back to 1998.

As it has in 13 of its 16 matches now, Minnesota opened the night by taking the doubles point. Leandro Toledo and Felix Corwin suffered their first loss of the spring in doubles, falling to Josh Silverstein and Stieg Martens at No. 2, but No. 66-ranked Mathieu Froment and Jack Hamburg answered with an 8-3 defeat of No. 74 Matt Hagan and Dominic Patrick at the top position.

Eric Frueh and Matic Spec gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead by taking down Jake Jacoby and Lefteris Theodorou, 8-4, at the No. 3 spot.

In singles, Spec notched his team-best 13th win of the dual match season in straight sets at No. 4 and Hamburg put Minnesota on the cusp of victory by doing the same at No. 3. The score of both matches was 6-1, 6-2. No. 25 Toledo secured the win by dispatching 104th-ranked Matt Hagan 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 flight.

To cap the sweep, Froment won at No. 6, Ruben Weber won at No. 2 and Corwin completed a comeback win at No. 5, beating Silverstein in a super tiebreaker.

Spec and Corwin maintained their team lead in singles victories in 2014-15 with 22 apiece by each winning his fifth-straight, while Toledo picked up his 10th singles win of the spring season at No. 1. He has now defeated seven ranked opponents as a senior.

The Gophers travel to No. 74 Nebraska Sunday for a noon match. Next week, they will play home matches versus Purdue and No. 39 Indiana.
