Arnorsson Leads Gophers on Day 1

"Runar showed today why we as a staff are so high on his ability to play at an elite college level," head coach John Carlson said. "His consistent ball striking today allowed him to attack the golf course."
Jose Mendez shot a 2-over for the Gophers' second-best score of the day.
"Jose couldn't get anything going today through 15 holes, but like All-Americans do, he stayed patient and birdied two of his final three holes for 71," Carlson said.
Jon DuToit carded a 73, and Matt Rachey eagled the 16th hole as part of his 73. Riley Johnson finished with a 76.
"Our team is playing at a high level now but didn't score well today," Carlson said. "Expect DuToit, Rachey, Mendez, Arnorsson and Johnson to play well on Friday and Saturday as they are a determined group of players."
TCU shot 16-under on the first day to take an eight-stroke lead ahead of UAB. UNLV's John Oda turned in a 6-under 64 and holds a one-shot lead over six second-place golfers.

Arnorsson birdied two holes and bogeyed to come out even for the day. He is tied for 36th.
