Minnesota Tops Purdue, Stays Perfect at Home

MINNEAPOLIS -- The 31st-ranked Minnesota men's tennis team notched a 4-0 victory over Purdue Friday night at the Baseline Tennis Center. The win vaulted the Gophers' record to 13-5 with a 4-0 ledger in the Big Ten. They are now 9-0 at home on the year.
In the eight-plus seasons under Geoff Young, Minnesota is 68-25 in Minneapolis. Since the current senior class arrived on campus, the Maroon and Gold has won 33 of 40 home matches.
For the 15th time in 18 tries this year, the Gophers struck first with the doubles point.
Ranked duos of Jack Hamburg and Mathieu Froment and Leandro Toledo and Felix Corwin won at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. No. 49 Hamburg and Froment won 8-1 and No. 76 Toledo and Corwin secured the competition with an 8-4 victory.
In singles, No. 25-ranked Toledo rallied from a second-set deficit at No. 1 to extend Minnesota's lead to 2-0. The final score of his match was 6-2, 6-4. It was the 90th win of the Hamburg, Germany native's career.
Corwin then improved to 13-2 on the spring and earned his team-leading 24th win of 2014-15 with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 before Ruben Weber finished the match with a straight-set win over Ricky Medinilla in the second spot, making it 4-0.
Matic Spec (No. 3), Hamburg (No. 4) and Froment (No. 6) saw their singles matches go unfinished.
The Gophers finish their weekend Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center when they play host to No. 39 Indiana.
