Gophers Set For NCAA Zone Diving Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota men's and women's diving teams will head to Iowa City, IA to compete in the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships. The meet will run from Monday, Mar. 9 through Wednesday, Mar. 11. One-meter, three-meter and platform events will be contested as the Gophers look to qualify for their respective NCAA Championships later this month. Live results can be found at divemeets.com.
Head diving coach Wenbo Chen will lead eleven Golden Gopher divers during this week's events. Those competing include men's divers: Matt Barnard, Erik Larsen, Daniel Monaghan, Manny Pollard, Nick Rodriguez and Dylan Zoe. Representing the women's team will be Elizabeth Etterman, Katy Etterman, Jessica Ramberg, Lexi Tenenbaum and Yu Zhou.
Requirements to qualify for the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships:
Women - top eight on one-meter, top ten on three-meter and top nine on platform advance
Men - top eight on one-meter, top six on three-meter and top seven on platform advance
Note: If a diver qualfies in one event, they may compete in the others if they are in the top twelve
2015 B1G CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
Women's
Sophomore Yu Zhou was named Big Ten Diver of the Championships after her performances on the one-meter, three-meter and platform diving events. Zhou took home the gold in both springboard diving events. On the one-meter, Zhou totaled 365 points for first. During the three-meter competition she collected 411.55 points for another first-place finish, while breaking the pool record at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. In platform, Zhou picked up a third medal - this time silver - after finishing second with a total of 371.80 points.
Senior Katy Etterman picked up a silver medal in the one-meter competition after totaling 333.80 points behind teammate Zhou. She finished eighth in three-meter diving, totaling 315.45 points. Etterman finished 13th with 286 points in platform diving.
Jessica Ramberg finished eighth in the one-meter competition with a score of 289.30 points. In three-meter diving, she placed22nd with a total of 258.70 points. Ramberg totaled 286.10 points in platform diving for seventh place.
Lexi Tenenbaum placed tenth on the one-meter with a total of 321.65 points. Tenenbaum placed tenth in the three-meter competition with 346.35 points during the consolation finals. The sophomore finished fifth in platform diving with a score of 312.
Men's
Junior Manny Pollard totaled the most individual points of any Golden Gopher at the 2015 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with 33 points. Pollard finished seventh on both the one-meter and three-meter, totaling 347.90 points and 398.70 points respectively. He took ninth in platform with a score of 397.10 points.
Matt Barnard placed 25th in the one-meter competition with a 283.65. Barnard finished with a score of 402.20 in three-meter diving for ninth place.In his favorite event, platform diving, Barnard finished in fourth-place with a total of 425.70 points.
Dylan Zoe finished eleventh overall on the one-meter, totaling 339.40 points.Zoe picked up eleventh place in three-meter diving as well after totaling 386.20 points.The junior claimed seventh in platform diving with a score of 377.40.
Senior Erik Larsen totaled 295.50 points for 17th place in the one-meter diving competition. He finished 22nd with 292.15 points in the three-meter diving event. Larsen placed 16th in platform diving, scoring a total of 277.35 points
Nick Rodriguez finished 22nd with a score of 286.60 points in one-meter diving.He finished 15th in the three-meter competition with 308.80 points. In platform diving, Rodriguez finished 25th with 226.45 points.
Freshman Daniel Monaghan placed 28th with a score of 253.20 on the one-meter boards. He totaled 249.25 points to place 29th in three-meter diving. Monaghan placed 21st in platform diving after totaling 250.80 points.
2014 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS GOPHERS ROSTER
Last year, Jessica Ramberg and now-alum Maggie Keefer represented Minnesota at the 2014 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. While Matt Barnard was the sole Golden Gopher diver to qualify for the for the 2014 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
