EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The 32nd-ranked Minnesota men's tennis team shut out Michigan State, 7-0, Sunday afternoon in East Lansing, Mich. The Gophers, who improved to 17-6 and 8-1 in the Big Ten, have now won their last 20 meetings with the Spartans dating back to 1999.

The Maroon and Gold's 17 team wins this year are its most since 2011 when the team finished 19-6.

Michigan State started fast in the match when No. 21-ranked Harry Jadun and John Patrick Mullane earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Minnesota recovered, however, as Matic Spec and Eric Frueh won at No. 3 and No. 57 Leandro Toledo and Felix Corwin clinched the first point with an 8-5 triumph at No. 2

Together, Toledo and Corwin are 18-2 overall and 15-1 on the spring. They have won six-straight matches.

Spec added to a win streak of his own, coming up victorious for the 10th-straight time in singles to improve to 18-2 on the spring. The Maribor, Slovenia native downed Brett Forman in straight-sets at No. 2.

Corwin followed Spec's victory with a singles win of his own at No. 4 to make it 3-0. The team's two freshmen have combined to go 54-9 in singles play in 2014-15.

To secure the win, Mathieu Froment dispatched Michael Dube in straight sets at No. 6. Toledo, Jack Hamburg and Ruben Weber won at Nos. 1, 5 and 3, respectively, to complete the sweep.

Toledo is now 9-0 in Big Ten singles play and is 24-9 overall. The 2014 All-American is 17-5 at the top position this spring and has 95-career wins, good for 11th in program history.

The Gophers conclude their regular season at home next week with matches against No. 3-ranked and Big Ten leader Illinois Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 26-ranked Northwestern Sunday at noon.
