Herauf Leads Heptathlon through Day One

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Redshirt junior Jess Herauf recorded career-best marks in all four events to lead the Gopher heptathletes on day one of the Virginia Challenge Friday.

Herauf leads the 15-athlete heptathlon field with 3,440 points through four events. She won the heptathlon high jump (1.69m) and shot put (13.99m), took second in the 200m (24.79) and was sixth in the 100m hurdles (14.57). All four marks were personal-bests.

Fellow Gophers Alex Beckman (3,313 points), Audra Winter (3,133) and Amanda Beckman (2,939) are third, seventh and 11th, respectively, through the first four heptathlon events.

Alex Beckman earned two career-best marks as she took second in the high jump (1.69m) and fourth in the shot put (12.25m). She also placed third in the 200m in a season-best 24.87 seconds and was seventh in the 100m hurdles (14.61).

Winter's highest placing through the first four events was a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a career-best throw of 11.78m. Meanwhile, Amanda Beckman recorded two career-best marks, tying her personal best in the high jump at 1.60m and taking seventh in the 200m in a career-best 25.32 seconds.

The Virginia Challenge heptathlon continues tomorrow with the long jump at 9:30 a.m. CT. The javelin is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT, and the heptathlon concludes with the 800m at 12:30 p.m. The Gophers are also in action at the Holst Invitational hosted by Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday.
