Mable Advances, Gophers Cap 2015 Season

AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 17-ranked University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team capped its 2015 season with a fourth place finish at the Auburn Regional at Auburn Arena on Saturday evening. The squad scored a 195.025 to finish behind No. 5 Alabama, No. 8 Auburn and Big Ten conference foe Maryland. Alabama and Auburn will advance as a team to the NCAA Championships set for April 17-19 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Junior Lindsay Mable will represent the Maroon and Gold at the national championships after earning individual crowns in the all-around competition, vault and floor exercise. Mable now has 31 individual event wins in 2015 and 11 all-around crowns. Mable was named theNACGC/W North Central Region Gymnast of the Year at the conclusion of the event for the second-straight year.

Minnesota began the evening on balance beam where the team tallied an overall score of 49.175. Mable and fellow junior Hanna Norquist led the way for the Gophers by both tallying 9.900's each. The pair tied for second overall followed by Madeline Hanley who put together a solid routine and posted a score of 9.850. Sophomore Rachel Haines rounded out the top 20 with a 9.800.

The Gophers transitioned to their first bye of the evening before heading to floor exercise. Mable picked up her first individual event win of the evening by tallying a 9.900 to earn the top spot with Alabama's Lauren Beers and Carley Sims. Senior Cierra Tomson (9.800) and freshman Ciara Gardner (9.775) each contributed high scores to the Gophers' overall team score of 48.900.

The Gophers combined for a team score of 49.200 on vault behind strong performances from Mable (9.925) who brought home the individual event win and senior Jenny Covers who recorded a 9.850 to finish in twelfth place overall. The Maroon and Gold headed to another bye before finishing up the competition on the uneven bars.

The final event proved to be the most challenging for the Golden Gophers who tallied a team score of 47.750. Mable recorded the highest score for the squad when she posted a 9.850 to tie for fifth place. Hanley scored a 9.775 to record the Gophers second highest score on the event.

Minnesota finished over two points behind Alabama who claimed the regional championship. Mable will be the lone representative for the Maroon and Gold at the national championships later this month.
