MINNEAPOLIS - The Golden Gophers hosted the University of Wisconsin at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in a two-day non-season, long course meet. The two Big Ten rivals utilized the meet to gather times as student-athletes kick off their non-collegiate, long course summer season.

The long course format features a 50-meter pool, opposed to the 25-yard short course pool collegiate swimming uses. In addition to the current Minnesota and Wisconsin squads, alums from both schools raced in separate mixed events -  including David Plummer, Jared Anderson, Josh Hall and Haley Spencer.  

Friday evening's competition included the 400 medley relay, 800 free, 50 fly, 200 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 fly, 50 free and 200 IM. 

The relay team of Brooke Zeiger, Kierra Smith, Danielle Nack and Lauren Votava placed first in the women's 400 medley relay with a time of 4:11.51, over Wisconsin's best 4:13.16.

The Minnesota men's 400 medley relay squad was touched out by the Badgers. Chris Johnson, Connor Croan, Daryl Turner and Paul Fair combined for a 3:46.93 for second.

Brooke Zeiger had the top Minnesota finish in the women's 800 freestyle. Zeiger finished first with a time of 8:46.80. Breanne Siwicki placed fourth with a time of 9:15.47.

CJ Smith posted a 8:22.63 in the men's 800 free for second place. 

In the women's 50 butterfly, Danielle Nack finished with a 27.78 for second place. Teammate Ellen Bloom placed fourth with a time of 29.44. 

Daryl Turner picked up a first-place finish in the men's 50 fly. Turner finished with a time of 24.83. Bryce Boston placed third with a 25.95, while Chase Bublitz finished with a time of 26.26 for fifth place.

Gophers Kiera Janzen and Lauren Votava went 1-2 in the women's 200 free. Janzen took home the top time with a 2:03.34, with Votava following with a time of 2:05.33. Abigail Raatz picked up sixth place with a time of 2:08.96. 

In the men's 200 freestyle competition, Michael Nunan finished second with a time of 1:53.65. Erick Huft placed fifth with a 1:58.53, while Paul Fair finished with a 1:59.92 for seventh.

Brooke Zeiger claimed first in the women's 100 backstroke. Zeiger finished with a time of 1:03.73, with teammate Katelyn Holmquist taking third with a 1:05.80. Ellen Bloom had a 1:08.20 for fifth place. 

Jonathon Thielen and Noah Busch represented the Gophers in the men's 100 backstroke. Thielen placed fourth with a 59.86, while Busch followed for fifth with a time of 1:00.85. 
Kierra Smith claimed first in the women's 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:11.00. Rae Bullinger picked up third with a 1:16.18, while classmate Bridgette Grobe finished sixth with a time of 1:20.32. 

Minnesota's Conner McHugh won the men's 100 breaststroke with a new long course personal best of 1:02.33. Spencer Mattox and Nick Hatanaka finished third and fourth respectively. Mattox went 1:04.09, while Hatanaka finished with a time of 1:04.85.

Danielle Nack took the gold in the women's 200 butterfly. Nack finished with a 2:16.61, with teammate Breanne Siwickifinishing with a time of 2:22.21.

The Gopher men had a dominating presence in the 200 butterfly, going 1-2-3 in the event. Ben Bravence led the way with a 2:04.15 for first, while Nick Orf finished with a 2:05.88. Viktor Bjoerk rounded out the top three with a time of 2:07.08.

Abigail Raatz posted the top time for the Gophers in the women's 50 free, finishing with a time of 26.60 for third place. Lauren Votava finished fifth a time of 26.87 and Ellen Bloom took seventh with a time of 28.20. 

Golden Gopher Daryl Turner placed first in the men's 50 freestyle, finishing with a 23.71. Noah Bush (24.21) and Ian Gordon (24.31) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Brooke Zeiger placed first in the women's 200 IM with a 2:18.15, nearly four seconds faster than Wisconsin's top-finisher. Breanne Siwicki finished fourth in the event with a time of 2:25.95. 

With a time of 2:05.07, Jakub Maly took home the gold in the men's 200 IM. Jonathon Thielen finished third with a time of 2:12.74, while Connor Croan took fifth (2:13.67).

Saturday morning's competition kicked off in a similar fashion, with Brooke Zeiger and Jakub Maly claiming commanding first-place finishes in the 400 IM.

For the women's 400 IM, Brooke Zeiger finished with a time of 4:50.43 for first - over nine seconds faster than the rest of the field. Breanne Siwicki followed for second with a time of 4:59.88.

Jakub Maly had a 4:29.56 in the men's 400 IM for first. Connor Croan placed fourth with a time of 4:49.52, with teammate Jack Tribble following for fifth with a 4:53.02.

Katelyn Holmquist finished second in the 50 backstroke with a time of 30.89. Ellen Bloom placed fifth with a time of 31.97.

Daryl Turner took home the gold in the men's 50 back (25.99). Noah Bush placed fourth with a time of 27.68, followed by Chris Johnson (27.79).

Minnesota's Lauren Votava placed second in the women's 100 freestyle. Votava finished with a time of 57.46. Abigail Raatz placed fifth with a 58.78.

Paul Fair finished second in the men's 100 free with a time of 51.91. Teammates Michael Nunan (53.24) and Ryan Miksch (53.52) finished fifth and sixth respectively.

In the women's 200 breaststroke, Kierra Smith finished first by nearly nine seconds with a time of 2:28.66. Rae Bullinger picked up fifth with a 2:54.33. 

Conner McHugh placed second in the men's 200 breast with a time of 2:19.04, followed by teammates Spencer Mattox (2:22.29) and Nick Hatanaka (2:24.24).

Danielle Nack finished second in the women's 100 fly, finishing with a time of 1:01.71. Lauren Votava placed fourth with a time of 1:03.31, while Ellen Bloom took seventh with a 1:06.06.

Daryl Turner picked up his fourth first-place finish of the meet in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a 55.10. Viktor Bjoerk(57.05) and Nick Orf (57.15) placed fourth and fifth respectively.

In the women's 200 backstroke, Brooke Zeiger added her sixth first-place finish of the meet, finishing with a time of 2:17.60. Katelyn Holmquist followed for second with a 2:23.44.

Chris Johnson finished third in the men's 200 back with a time of 2:09.43. Jack Tribble (2:16.42) and Jonathon Thielen(2:16.87) finished sixth and seventh respectively.

Breanne Siwicki and Theresa Bushman represented the Gophers in the women's 400 freestyle. Siwicki placed fourth with a time of 4:32.69, while Bushman picked up sixth with a 4:45.24.

Ben Bravence posted the top time for the Gophers in the men's 400 free. Bravence finished second overall with a time of 4:01.63 and was followed by CJ Smith (4:02.33). Michael Nunan placed fifth with a time of 4:08.29.

Kierra Smith finished with a 33.35 in the women's 50 breaststroke for second place. Rae Bullinger followed for third with a time of 33.85, while Bridgette Grobe picked up fifth (36.36). 

In the men's 50 breast, Conner McHugh took home the gold with a 29.00. Nick Hatanaka finished third with a time of 29.62, followed by Spencer Mattox with a 30.10.

The 400 free relay team of Lauren Votava, Abigail Raatz, Danielle Nack and Ellen Bloom placed second with a team of 3:55.64.

Paul Fair, Daryl Turner, Michael Nunan and Ryan Miksch finished second in the men's 400 free relay with a time of 3:27.08. Minnesota's "B" relay followed for third with a time of 3:34.42.
